Rapid Prototyping and displacement mapping

These are a series of experiments generating RP files from common displacement techniques. Displacement mapping is based on mapping an image of a pattern onto a surface. The surface geometry is manipulated according to the image pattern. The challenge when doing this is to produce complete files without too wide gaps. Displacement mapping displaces the surface gemetry and hence leaves gaps between surfaces that the RP software does not like.

The first deties of picture shows a series of tests. Then follows an experiment with producing a steel-bronce alloy mould for glass moulding (done with Lena Hansson and Hadeland Glassverk) in the end there are a few images of the outer shell of the a-drift time capsule showing a subtle pattern of displacement mapping.
